Rebecca's Divorce

Rebecca had fixed her eyes on the Mediterranean Sea, sensing the cool gentle wind hitting her face. Her eyes were closed and the warm white sand was touching her naked toes. The place and the atmosphere was just unbelievable but it was not easy to digest the pain she going through on remembering the last time she was here.

This was the same place where she had married Pete 4 years ago from today. She was clad in a plain pink dress, with small pink roses trying to pamper her dark & long curls. Rebecca had never been so happy in her life before. Pete's attire was a little less formal but still he seemed to be appealing.

He was dressed in his summer trousers and a loose fitting cotton shirt. As they were holding hands the priest read their promises and then gave his blessing of being happily married. They had done their planning of how many children they with have, where they will live.

But that appeared to be a long time. So many things had changed in these years - So much pain and sorrow can transform a person to such an extent that it can even break the strongest love. Four years from that day and they had come again. This time it was not for marriages the beach was renowned for but also for it's well known quick divorces.

Tears' rolling down Rebecca's cheeks her heart was overflowing with sorrow & grief. She had no option but to carry on in her life with new thoughts and spirits. She wondered how could this lovely place, perpetuity of indigo blue sea with its evergreen coastline and the never ending sand is a place for the suffering she was feeling now?

There stood a man watching her from the periphery of the coconut trees. He was not able to move his eyes from the beautiful haired woman who stood close by the sea, and her eyes desperately waiting for someone or something. She was pretty, with her lean figure, fanatical hair and dazzling green eyes similar to the color of sea. It was not her beauty that fascinated him instead her isolation and strength that enticed him. He was quite sure of the fact that she was unlike any other women he had ever met.

Without even turning around Rebecca could feel the man coming close to her. She had already notice the man standing far and observing her and she was relaxed on being observed. As she looked at him she sensed an immediate ember of bond that she had felt once before. He gradually walked close to her and they kept staring at each other. It was not a feeling of meeting a stranger on a lonely beach but a friend long lost.

Later they sat in one of the bars in the resort and drank the local cocktails, and then began the conversation. Initially they were a bit hesitant to talk to each other but then as the alcohol started to show its effect is when they opened their heart to each other.

Rebecca started talking of the pain that she had suffered in the past years and how circumstances led her to this place where she was married to the man she loved so much. She spoke about grief she went through on losing her baby. And that Pete was not in town to share the misery, nor was he there when I had delivered a baby. All the months after she was in isolation not ready to meet her husband, family & friends.

After opening her heart in front of the man when Rebecca looked up, she could see the pain reflecting in the man's eyes. For once after such a long time she did not feel alone. She felt relaxed after clearing the burden that she was carrying past so many years. After seeing the tears flowing down the man's eyes, she felt that there is still a lovely future waiting for her.

They were here to bring their marriage to an end, but there was still some hope left. Rebecca took Pete by his hands close to the beach where they had made promises to each other years ago. She said, "We will rework on our promises tonight and I will cancel the divorce tomorrow."
